The Bio Bank team never really get chance to ‘rest on our laurels’ at all, but then again, who gets anywhere by doing that?! At the moment we are busy preparing for two international conferences – the First Vatican Coffin Conference and the VIIIth World Mummy Congress – both of which are guaranteed to be interesting meetings of like-minded scholars from around the world.
The Vatican conference takes place between 19th and 22nd of June 2013. The team are presenting two posters – one on the Chester ‘Cat’ coffin and another on a Third Intermediate Period coffin from the Manchester Museum. Both of these coffins and their associated mummies have been studied using the latest radiographic imaging techniques by the Manchester team, yielding interesting information about the inhabitants and their burial treatments.
The World Mummy Congress is being held in Rio de Janeiro in August. The flights and hotel are booked, all we need to do now are to write the abstracts for the deadline at the end of May. Watch this space for an update on what we hope to present there.
